Williams Dylan
Dylan Williams is a molecular epidemiologist of age-related chronic diseases at Karolinska Institutet. Dylan's research focuses on identifying causes and potential treatments of age-related chronic diseases, particularly the major neurodegenerative conditions Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Their studies cross molecular, genetic, life course and pharmacological epidemiology. He is also interested in developing study designs that aid causal inference in epidemiology. This includes work on natural experiments, Mendelian randomization studies, and other forms of 'instrumental variable' analyses.
Some of his current projects investigating environmental exposures that may affect risk of Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and ALS; the repurposing of commonly prescribed medications as treatments or prophylactics for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases; understanding the causes and consequences of age-related frailty (the variation in general health between people at equal ages); assessing whether molecular measures of ageing (including DNA methylation) mediate effects of the environment on neurodegenerative diseases; and the role of the hormonal IGF axis in ageing, neurodegeneration and other health outcomes.
