Wayne Delport, PhD is the Vice President of Technology at Human Longevity, Inc. He received his PhD, Genetics, with a focus on population genetics at the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2005, followed by two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cape Town in avian speciation and HIV viral evolution. His work with colleagues at the University of California, San Diego brought him to the United States as a research scientist at the Department of Pathology, under the leadership of Prof. Douglas Richman and Prof. Sergei Kosakovsky Pond.

At UCSD Wayne developed statistical methods for detecting evolutionary selection in viruses and packaged these models into web-based bioinformatics tools. In 2010, Wayne moved to a biotech startup, Prognosys Biosciences, as a Bioinformatics Scientist supporting a team of research scientists developing functional Next Generation Sequencing Assays. During his time at Prognosys, Wayne developed his Amazon Web Services skills with the creation of a cloud-based Next Generation Sequencing platform for RNA-Seq. In 2015 Wayne joined HLI as a Bioinformatics Scientist with an initial focus on developing Oncology analytics. His role has since grown to providing strategic direction and technological guidance for the deployment of scientific computing in the Amazon cloud.
